The only way to have a friend is to be one. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

This wasn't the exact quote that I saw, but the one I saw said " To have a friend you must be a friend". It's close enough but I still like this way better. I say this pretty eye opening quote on the side of a school on the way home, and all the way home it has stuck with me.

I will be honest I have had some difficulty making some long lasting relationships. I won't  say that I am shy or quite, I am actually the opposite. I can talk to people easy and am very social able. But every since I graduated Secondary School it has been difficult to friends that will stick. Throughout Secondary School, though I had friends and a best friend I never really realized how close we weren't were until after graduation. I thought it was us but i guess it was really just me that wasn't really into hanging outside of school. I knew after the weekend was over or the next day that my friends were always just there by my side. I never did really have to put much effort into it and I now I know the repercussions of it.
"To have a friend, you must be a friend." I think friendships are the most beautiful and complex relationships. You literally are choosing to stay with this stranger to love and support without anything in return, besides the love and support. Like how do we find that, its kinda scary.  But "To have a friend, you must be a Friend," so how can we be a friend? I guess it's basically saying that what we seek in other people, we must seek it in ourselves and provided it to ourselves and others first. So what do you seek in a friend? I want openness and honesty and someone I can trust. And two out of three of that I am afraid of. Everyone goes through so much shit throughout their lives and with that it becomes very difficult to be open. To openly share the experiences. This was one of my problems in Secondary, even though I have been with these people for 5 years, no one knew nothing about me. And with my lack of openness, that's what prevented my friend from sharing with me. So if I want that, I need to be more open with others, but how can I trust some right off the bat like that. Fear number two, trust. But its actually more of the fear of them trusting me, what if I let them down, or wasn't able to be there for them like they need to be with. Or maybe I'm just looking too deeply into this. Sorry to make this sound difficult. But isn't friendship the weirdest thing. They love you for who you are are and don't pressure you change.
I don't know, I think is my new favourite, only cause it can really teach me a lot. I just wanted you Roses, to hear this quote and see if its applicable in your own lives. Sometimes we do question ourselves in why we can't have a long lasting friend or friends and I don't think it necessary our faults. But there is something we can learn from ourselves and see what we can work on. For example me, I was expecting openness but was jammed shut so tight that no air or light was getting in. This will take me time but I will work on it and hopefully one day  I can talk you Roses about my journey.  What did you think of the quote, what does it mean to you (its okay if it means something totally different),  and I feel like I asked a lot questions so comment below on your thoughts and feelings. We would love to hear.  Have a beautiful day or night Rebel Roses. Take Care.
Love Always,
