School Survival Kit

Hello Roses,

It’s that time of the year again. Time for the early alarms, the in-house tutoring (what even is the pythagorean theorem?), late night study sessions (or none at all), and more. Yup, it’s the first day of school. While some are rejoicing, some are in tears, there are those who are going back to school for the first time in a while. Those who are facing their last year uncertain of the future. Those who are going through some stuff and still tackling that first day.
First off props to all of you out there facing the first day in whatever way you can. Whether you are a parent, student, friend, family, etc. you are the real MVP! Today’s post is for those of us who are finished with school, and want to support those loved ones who are going back. Especially those who have made the hard choice by doing so! Today I’m going to take you through making a “School Survival Kit” for that person or persons in your life. Low-cost, and easily customizable be the friend/family member who supports and is there for this person/those persons.

Step 1:Make a budget! Seriously don’t just walk into your nearest Staples or London Drugs and think “oh I’ll only spend about $10”. Trust me, you’ll leave after spending at least 3X that; which for some may not seem like a lot, but can be all the difference to someone.

Do some research on what stuff like small school supplies (pencils, flash drive, etc.), band-aids, hand lotions, etc. cost, and where you can find the best deals. Based off of that I would say set a price range. For example, set something like a minimum of $10-$30 max.

Step 2:Make a list of items. I recommend having at least 5 items in the kit. Things like the basics mentioned earlier. Below I have a list of items that’ll help you get started.

  • Hand Lotion
  • Sanitizer
  • Post-It Notes
  • Highlighter
  • Sharpie
  • Flash Drive
  • Band-Aids
  • Tylenol/Advil
  • Menstrual Products (tampons/pads/cup/etc.)
  • Deodorant
  • Chapstick
  • Gum/Mint
  • Face Wipes
  • Wet Ones/Hand Wipes
  • Granola Bars
  • Chocolate
  • Trail Mix
  • Hair Ties
  • Water Bottle
  • Makeup (if they use it, and only small “carry-on” items-mascara, eye-liner, lip gloss, etc.)

Step 3:Packing! When it comes to packing the kit, you’ll want to put it in something that is easy to carry around, and concealable. My favourite thing to use is a pencil case (one of the cloth ones), a make-up bag, etc. They’re super fun and usually already decorated so you don’t have to spend time on that.

There you have it. In three easy steps you can give this thoughtful gift to a loved one who could really use it. If you use this let us know! Tag @realrebelroses in your photos! Don’t forget to show us some love on our other platforms! You can find us on Pinterest/Snapchat/Instagram/Facebook/LinkedIn. Until next time Roses!
