Hello Roses,
We are so excited to share today’s blog with you all. We had the amazing opportunity to be one of the lucky few to receive an ARC (advanced readers copy) of an amazing book coming out September 2018. This was courtesy the amazing Tina Schomburg (special thanks to you) who is one of twenty co-authors. All I can say is wow. This book, these writers, everything about is is so epically beautiful. Read on for our review.

Close your eyes, relax your shoulders, and think of your favourite food. I am serious; think of that one kind of food where as soon as you even smell it, your world lights up. That food that no matter where you are, or how you are provides you with comfort. The kind of comfort that soothes the soul-a.k.a “soul food”.

That is what “Her Art Of Surrender”, published by Golden Brick Road (GBR) by author Cassie Jeans alongside an army of equally amazing women  is; soul food in the written word. It is a type of book which once you are done you cannot help but sit down and reflect. Reflect on not just what you read, but the courage it took for these stories to be told, the lessons that are to be learned and were learned. Perhaps the biggest reflection it leaves you with though, is that of your own life.

After finishing each story the reader cannot help but put down the book and take a moment to absorb all that they read, and what it means for them. Some stories resonate more than others, but that is only because of individual experiences, while others may remind you of someone you know/knew. Each story provides a lesson which can be hard to hear, but is so enriching that the reader cannot help but want to hear more.

The book is about a lot of things, sef-love, hope, love in general, journey’s of all kinds, but most of all as the title suggests, the art of surrender. It explains the meaning of surrender on a soul-level. It talks about what it means to truly surrender to one’s surroundings, emotions, and more. This book talks about a topic which is relatively untouched by many in the population, but is one that needs to be explored by many of us. I can’t really explain more because in order to truly understand this book and all its messages you are going to have to read it yourself.

We start the book with a preface by Cassie Jeans explaining a bit about the thoughts and hopes behind the book. This is followed by an introduction, once again by the lovely Cassie Jeans, which goes a bit deeper into the book and what is about and what they hope to accomplish. They also pose a few questions for readers to keep in mind as they are about to embark on this journey. I would definitely recommend keeping those questions in mind as you read.

We then get into our first story by Lauren Janee, the founder of Braving the Becoming; a non-profit which seeks to empower and inspire women who have been through trauma to reclaim their stories and voices by providing healing services, retreats, and educational seminars/workshops.

*Quick side note: Each author gets a mini introduction and ways to contact them before their individual story.*

Her story is one of hope. It is one of compassion, faith, and the understanding that surrendering to our emotions, our experiences good and bad, is what can heal us. She goes through a bit of her experience (no trigger warning necessary as nothing is explored to the depth that it would be warranted), and how surrendering to her grief, her experiences helped her heal. This was a beautifully written piece on one woman’s journey to regain her sense of self and the power she believes we each have to do the same.

It is written in a way that every reader, no matter their experiences, can relate to it. They will be able to learn from it, grow from it. In fact each piece in this book is written in this way. Where anyone can read it and connect with it.

I won’t be delving into each story, but just a couple which stood out to me, and to give you an idea of what you can expect. The second piece is by Tina Schomburg (her piece is the next one after Lauren’s). Her story is about her journey with cancer and how surrendering, no matter how difficult, changed her life. It is a gorgeous piece which truly touches the soul in a way that the reader doesn’t expect it to. I mean that in the best way possible.

Her story is one about listening to ourselves, making the difficult decisions, and understanding that while not everything is in our control we can control how we react. It is a piece which truly makes one reflect on their life and the lives of those around them. The reader can’t help but be grateful after reading the piece, for life and the roller coaster it is. The reader will also feel courageous. Courageous enough to surrender and let life happen, because sometimes that is all we can do.

Although this may remind you of another series of books where people share their stories in the hopes of helping someone or to prove a point, what makes “Her Art Of Surrender” stand out is the raw vulnerability in each piece. Every contributor stands out in their own way because of this. It take tremendous power to share this type of story, to divulge the bad, and leave hope for the good at the same time. This is a hard feat not accomplished by many, but each and every contributor did so.

At the end, as mentioned before, one cannot help but sit down and reflect. Not many books have this kind of power. I entered this book expecting some heartwarming moments and in all honesty some fluff pieces, but I left with filled with gratitude, and lessons which will help and last for a lifetime.

In the end, if I have one thing to say it is to each of you readers go and preorder this book right now. Like right now, click that link and buy this book! It is the best decision you will make all day, week, month, year. I recommend this book for any and everyone 14+. We all have something to take from the words of each person who contributed. If I were to give this a rating out of 5 well can you guess? It’s a full 5/5!

A special thank you to Tina Schomburg, and Kylee of Golden Brick Road Publishing House for the chance to give our honest opinion. We cannot wait for September 2018 and for the rest of the world to be able to read this wonderful book.

Until next time roses! Keep an eye out on our social media for more unique and fun content! Have a great weekend.

Signed,

This is one of the best pieces that you have reviewed, and I am glad to say that I was the person who suggested it to you. I know that this is going to be a hard to digest, but it is good that you do. Well, first of all, you completely misunderstood the point of the story. I feel like you just wrote what you felt was right, and it is not bad, per se. I hope that you widen your perspective.

Unfortunately several books have not had their royalties paid out, contracts have been cancelled, and many women have been scammed by this vanity press posing as a publisher.

I suggest you dig further into this and you will discover the "coauthors" recruited under the guise of the lead author did not receive approriate support, have been threatened if they spoke out, and are left fighting for their money as the publisher flaunts her expensive lifestyle on social media.
