What is Love. I know that I care for the people in my life. When they are sad, I’m sad. When they are joyous, I’m ecstatic. But how do we know if we truly love someone? What makes them different? Why are they different? Can I love everyone?
Hello Rebels,
People speak of love all the time. They love their partner. They love a song. They love their child. They love that outfit. Why is it that I can love so many things and use the same word to describe such a strong emotion and describe such a strong attraction. I used to find it strange that people could use the word so loosely. Say it whenever they felt it. That’s the thing though. Some people say it when they feel it and that’s great. I always associate love  to a person, which is not entirely right. I feel like I can learn so much from those who express their love of things, people and situations. I forget it’s an entity itself. Listening to a song that you connect with, where the melody caresses your body and the lyrics brush against your lips yearning to be heard. You can fall in love with a song, which I have done on countless occasions. Walking down the beach with your toes sinking in the sand with every step, listening to the waves greeting the land and feeling your lungs expand as the salty air cools you from the inside out. That’s a beautiful moment that I have fallen  in love with. It’s not that this generation uses the word carelessly, it’s that they use it openly. No longer do some feel fear or embarrassment from it. We should hear this word more often. When someone enters your life and changes it for the better. Makes you feel good not just about yourself but about life. When you genuinely care for them and their well being. Tell them you love them. Let it be known. The last thing we want is to have someone so special in our lives and them not being able to find out how much you truly care, appreciate and respect them. Tell your parents, tell your kids, tell your friend, tell your teacher. Tell everyone who holds a special place in your heart, because people can’t read minds and don’t always know.

Love can be terrifying. I understand that. How do you make yourself not love. To not long to go back to that special oasis you found on vacation, to not want to feel the warmth of that special embrace, to not crave the delectable taste of that snack. Kesha called it when she sang “your love is my drug”. It can have people doing crazy things. To be in love and be vulnerable, trusting, and hopeful can have anyone running for the hills. Asking someone to just be vulnerable can be a challenge. Asking for trust after countless heartbreaks or betrayals can seem impossible. To be hopeful sounds like a sin. Why is it that to love or be loved is so difficult? Isn’t it supposed to be beautiful? Not just like in the fairytales, but actually be the epitome of beauty, every aspect, every state, by every definition isn’t love supposed to be beautiful? So why do people think of love and think of longing, regret, heartbreak? Why is it so difficult? I know the saying “love isn’t easy”, but it can't always be this hard. I have come to realize that love isn’t hard. Love has no ill intent, no repercussions, no animosity. It is the external and internal strength that is given to us to continue forward. It  is to love ourselves enough to honour our own values and morals and to see the beauty we possess. To have that support of a moment, song or person to hold us up when our knees buckle under the weight of the world. It is not the blindfold that misleads us, but instead is the kaleidoscope that changes our perspective and makes the dark and daunting look colourful and less frightening. It is humanities strength and not our weakness. Love has the power to change the world. It's not a weapon to wield it is a gift to give. We pass it on to one another like a story told long ago passed on from generation to generation. This story tell tales of generosity, motivation, sacrifice, patience and most importantly hope. Love gives hope for not just a better future, but for change, for less suffrage, less evil, and a promise for a unity like no other. We are seeing more people opening their hearts and letting others in. Making room to accommodate more emotions, ideas, beliefs. Love is not to be hidden away or banished. Love is meant to be rejoiced and shared. Yell it from the mountain top, whisper it to the wind, let the current carry the words down the river to be spread amongst the people. You don’t need an occasion or opportunity to say it. There is not a wrong time to say it. It does not need to be a person and it does not need to respond. Acknowledge the feelings you have and what makes you happy. Fall in love with the ocean, with the trees, with the children laughing in the park or the elderly couple holding hands walking down the sidewalk. Let yourself love freely and openly. To share a moment with a stranger or someone you’ve known your whole life. Your smile is contagious. Your love spreads. It’s not a virus or an infection. It is the vaccination and the cure for the hostilities and negativities this world and society has created. We as Rebel Roses work on spreading the love and changing the way people see the world. We want you to love yourself the way the people around you love you. We want people to love the things around them to finally see how beautiful, magical and awe inspiring this world truly is. Leave in the comments below what you love in this world and what is one thing that takes your breath away. I hope you all have a great week and I’ll talk to you soon.
Love you lots XO <3
