It's That Time Of The Year Again...

Hi There Roses,
Yes it’s that time of the year again. The wedding season has begun full-swing, and that means as have the bridal showers. Bridal showers are actually one of my favourite events to both plan and attend (a rarity for me :P). So for today’s post I thought I would guide you through a few bridal shower activities, but with a new spin on it. I’ll give you some background on a bridal shower, and then dive right into the games!
BackgroundA bridal shower is defined as, “a party for a woman who is about to be married”, by  Mirriam-Webster. It is also defined as, “a gift-giving party held for a bride-to-be in anticipation of her wedding”, by Wikipedia (here’s a link to the article on the history, and more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridal_shower). Now these showers are usually planned by the maid of honour/bridesmaids/friend(s)/or family. They tend to consist of food, drinks, a few games, and then the gift opening. About 99% of showers follow this routine, but if you want to do things differently read on for how to change things up for yours or a loved one’s shower.

ActivitiesAlmost all activities at a bridal shower are geared towards the bride and groom. You’re probably thinking “duh, it is a celebration of her marriage”, and yes it is, but it is also a celebration of another very important thing: friendship! Like I said earlier this event is usually thrown by a close loved one, for someone very special for them; so why aren’t we celebrating that?

I know that, that’s usually where the bachelorette comes in, but not everyone can make it out to that, many times your elder relatives (well the ones you like anyways) will not be there. So this is where my proposed twist comes in- instead of just celebrating the upcoming marriage, let’s also turn this into a celebration of the friendship and love between the bride and their nearest and dearest! How does that sound? Pretty good right? Below I will be outlining two activities which can easily be used to celebrate friendship as well as the upcoming marriage.

Activity 1: Photo ChallengeThis is a super fun bridal shower game, and is one of my favourites to play! Instead of using the traditional photos of a bride and groom, switch it up to use photos of the bride with their various friends (the closest ones), and family members.

The way this game works is you print various pictures of the bride with their family/friends at different ages, alongside guessing sheets for the guests. You will pin the pictures to a board or a poster board (I like to decorate the board in the theme of the shower, as well as the sheets-easily customizable using Word/In-Design) along with a number attached to each.

Hand out the guessing sheets, with a writing utensil to your guests for them to try to guess the age of the persons in each picture. The sheet will be something like “Name of Guest, Picture #1-Guess, Picture #2-Guess, etc.”. This is a fun game which also gets guests interacting amongst themselves, and celebrates some of the most important relationships in the bride’s life. The person with the most right wins! I also like to have small prizes like gift cards, or boxed chocolate, etc.

Very simple and easy am I right?

Activity #2: A Trip Down Memory LaneNow this activity is ready-made to celebrate friendship and love. Print out a sheets that say something like “A Trip Down Memory Lane”, or “My Favourite Memory Of Us” (can easily google and print them). Have each guest write out their favourite memory of the bride (anonymously) and then place in a special keepsake box/jar of sorts-this way the bride has a memento for life and to help bring their spirits up if they ever feel down.

Once everyone is done, have the bride read each aloud (unless they are too inappropriate or the bride doesn’t feel comfortable sharing it aloud) and guess who wrote it.  This is a fun way to hear some special stories and get to know the guest of honour and others at the event a bit better. It is also a lot of fun seeing the bride’s mind in action. There is no real “winner” for this activity but the memories recalled and made during it are worth more than gold.

There You Have ItAnd there you have it Roses! An easy, and fun couple of ways to celebrate a loved one and your relationship with them! I hope you can all use this in one way or another. Our relationships with our loved ones should be celebrated whenever we can!
