It's All Going To Work Out

First of all, breathe girl. It is okay not to have your life figured out. It is okay to fail. It is okay to be lost. It is also okay to not know what you want.
What isn't okay, is giving up, never starting over, not moving ahead.

I've been through my fair share of failures and challenges so I can tell you this- It will feel like the end of the world and that there is no coming back from it. But I promise you, as cliche as it is, everything truly does happen for a reason. The thing is, you need to learn to start over. Clean your mental state and simply, just breathe when things get rough. Stressing out is definitely not helping you succeed.
You grow and learn from you mistakes, failures, and challenges. Not trying to sound conceded, but I honestly have grown up a lot quicker than many people my age, because of all the things i've had to go through. I refused to let them overcome me. I refused to be defined by them.
I'm 22 years old and I constantly have pressure on me to be "better" or "more ahead" in life. But what defines that? I have a lot of success and currently in university getting "ahead" so why the need to rush?
When you're younger (and it continues as you age), society continues to put pressure on you to know what you want, to be perfect, to follow this structured path.
They put this invisible timeline on your life and future. I.e. - graduate university with a 4.0 by 22, masters by 25, $100,000 salary career by 26, kids by 27, Oh and of course be moved out by 20 while traveling the world (obviously an exaggeration. But you get the idea). You may not realize this but I can promise you that when you fail or face a challenge, this invisible timeline comes into the back of your mind and plays a part in your anxiety of the situation.
If you don't have these unrealistic standards met by certain ages, society again puts this press on you. Making you feel like a failure.
The thing is you're okay. You're breathing. You're moving ahead. You're doing what you need to do at the pace you need to do it at. No matter who you are, there will always be someone who society views as "better" (which what even defines that in the first place, but thats an argument for another time) than you. So no matter what you're going to get criticized. Therefore, you may as well just live your life and not worry about this invisible timeline. Spend your life loving it- sorry another cliche- but you only have one ! Travel for a year then go back to school, buy the expensive pink carpet for your room, go to art school, play hockey till you're 90. Do whatever makes you excited to wake up in the morning.
Love the life you're living.

Signed,
Lisa Reichert
